Travel: the outer Cape is accessible from Boston by plane and ferry.
- Cape Air does several 25-minute flights a day from Boston's Logan Airport. The Provincetown airport is a 5 minute drive from the town center, 15 minutes to Truro. Flights are around $210 round trip.
- The ferry ride is about 90 minutes and leaves from downtown Boston, a 10-minute taxi ride from the airport. Bay State Cruises leaves from the World Trade Center, which is also served by the Silver Line of the T (public transportation) from the airport (check out T maps and schedules). Boston Harbor Cruises leaves from Long Wharf, served by the Blue line of the T, but I'm not sure if that connects to the airport. Both ferries docks in central Provincetown. The ferry costs about $70 round trip, though if you reserve with Bay State Cruises by calling 877-783-3779 and using promotion code 1129/Lamar Wedding Guest, they'll give you a $60 rate.
- By car, Truro is about 3 hours from Boston, but it can be much worse if you get stuck in the Memorial Day traffic. Parking is available at Pilgrim Monument.
- If you're interested in renting a car, Enterprise has a location at the Provincetown Airport.
Accommodations: Provincetown has many options for accommodations, but we've never stayed in town. There are many highly rated inns listed on TripAdvisor. (Be aware that some have minimum stays for Memorial Day.) If you're seeking a calmer location, you might look into the smaller towns nearby:
- Robyn's family will be staying in Wellfleet Center (near here), about 15 minutes from the wedding site in Truro and 25 minutes from Provincetown. Wellfleet has a very cute historic town center and several inns. You might check out the Inn at Duck Creeke, the Holden Inn, or more on TripAdvisor.
- Michael's family will be staying in Truro at the wedding site (near here), which is about 15 minutes from Provincetown. You might check out the Crow's Nest, Top Mast Resort, Horizons Beach Resort, or Hostelling Intl Truro.
Weather: Memorial Day weekend is the very beginning of summer on the Cape, and as such the weather is very unpredictable. It could be in the high-70s and sunny, but it could also be mid-50s, wet and windy. We're crossing our fingers and planning on having the wedding outside on the dunes. The reception will be tented, though if it's nice out we'll roll up the sides and enjoy the sea breeze.
